5 Awesome Things We Learned At The D23 Expo

5 Awesome Things We Learned At The D23 Expo - FloridaTix.co.uk Blog

The D23 Expo is a biannual Disney conference announcing everything awesome that’s coming soon to Disney Parks around the globe, and showcasing the hard work of the Disney imagineers. We’ve picked up five of the very best things we are seriously excited for in Walt Disney World.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Star Wars Hotel

Currently under construction in Walt Disney World is a shiny new Star Wars land called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Once opened you’ll be able to visit a remote trading port on the very edge of space, and see Star Wars characters and stories come to life!

The area will feature two new attractions, one placing you on a Star Destroyer inside a huge hangar bay, and one which will place you in the middle of a fight between the First Order and the Resistance, creating a super-immersive battle experience.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open at Walt Disney World in 2019, and if you’re a big Star Wars fan, a themed hotel is also on it’s way! The hotel is almost a ride in itself, immersing you in another world! It’ll be awesome, and if they don’t have the Dagobah Gateaux Bar or Ackbar’s Snack Bar then they’re missing a trick.

Tron Attraction At Disney’s Magic Kingdom

As we reported on our Facebook page, a large Tron rollercoaster is landing next to Space Mountain at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park. Shanghai Disneyland already have a TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction, which is a rollercoaster-style attraction featuring a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles. This would be a very welcome addition to Walt Disney World; no official word yet on when it’ll open, but rumour has it it’ll be just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

This one wins our award for best-named ride so far. The first Mickey-themed ride-through attraction will place you inside Mickey’s cartoon world, with some exceptional visual effects and mind-bending transformations. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will feature something called 2½D – no special glasses needed – which we cannot wait to try out.

It’s absolutely worth knowing that in order to prepare for the build of the runaway railway, The Great Movie Ride currently at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will shut for good on August 13, 2017.

Toy Story Land Opening in 2018

Some of you may be familiar with Toy Story Land already, as it sits in Walt Disney Studios in Disneyland Paris and also at Hong Kong Disneyland. Toy Story Land for Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World was actually first mentioned back at D23 2015, but after successful construction up to this point, it is officially set to open in 2018! There’ll be two impressive-sounding rides to enjoy: Slinky Dog Dash, a family rollercoaster, and Alien Swirling Saucers, where aliens in their flying saucers are trying to capture your rocket! Sounds like it’ll be a blast!

Guardians Of The Galaxy and Ratatouille Coming To Epcot

TWO new attractions inspired by films are on their way to Epcot in the near future. A Guardians Of The Galaxy themed attraction will arrive at Future World, which we’re super-excited for, considering the success of Guardians Of The Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure park.

Not just that, Ratatouille is also getting a ride! It’s set to be similar to the 4D Ratatouille: The Adventure that lives at Disneyland Paris, and guests are to be shrunk down to the size of Remy the rat and get chased across the kitchen! Both of these rides will be ready for 2021.

Worth noting that the new Guardians Of The Galaxy attraction will replace Universe Of Energy, which will close for good on August 13, 2017.

2021 is set to be a massive year for Walt Disney World, as they celebrate their 50th anniversary. With all these new rides, parks and experiences to try, we’re already counting down the days! If you can’t wait four years though (because we can’t!) be sure to get your Disney tickets for 2017 and 2018!
