Get ready, Walt Disney World Resort fans! The magic is shifting into high gear as Magic Kingdom Park welcomes the all-new Piston Peak National Park, a thrilling expansion inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Cars universe!

While Disney has not yet announced an official opening date for Piston Peak National Park, we can’t wait to see construction start soon and watch this exciting new land come to life.

This exciting new land promises the wildest off-road rally adventure set against a stunning backdrop of mountains, waterfalls, and geysers, making it the biggest expansion in Magic Kingdom Park history.

What Is Piston Peak National Park?

Nestled within the iconic Frontierland area of Magic Kingdom Park, Piston Peak National Park brings to life a fictional wilderness inspired by the real-life Rocky Mountains and America’s treasured National Parks. This immersive new land offers guests a chance to explore rugged mountains, towering pine trees, rushing rivers, and dramatic geysers – all while experiencing the fun and excitement of a Cars-themed off-road rally!

Parkitecture Brings the Wilderness to Life

The creative geniuses at Walt Disney Imagineering are using the architectural style known as Parkitecture – originally developed by the National Park Service – to design visitor lodges, ranger stations, trails, and other structures that blend seamlessly with the natural environment. This means guests will feel like they’ve stepped right into a real national park, surrounded by authentic-looking rustic buildings that complement the breath-taking scenery of Piston Peak National Park.

A New Off-Road Rally Experience Unlike Any Other

Unlike the paved-road speed races of Disneyland’s Radiator Springs Racers, this new Cars-themed expansion will host an exhilarating off-road rally. Guests can expect a fully immersive experience with rugged mountain trails, lush forests, and the calming sounds of waterfalls and geysers. It’s an adventure that captures the spirit of the American frontier while delivering the fun and excitement of the Cars franchise.

Important Closures and Construction Timeline at Walt Disney World Resort

To make way for this landmark expansion, Walt Disney World Resort will permanently close several beloved attractions starting July 7, 2025:

• Rivers of America

• Tom Sawyer Island

• Liberty Square Riverboat

These closures mark the beginning of construction for Piston Peak National Park as well as the first-ever Disney Villains-themed land near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

• The fan-favourite Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen in 2026 with new magic and surprises.

• On July 20, 2025, the dazzling Disney Starlight parade will make its grand debut down the streets of Magic Kingdom Park.
