The huge news that James Cameron is joining forces with Walt Disney Parks and Fox Filmed Entertainment to create a real life world of AVATAR was announced yesterday. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the themed land styled around the spectacular visuals from the blockbuster film with the help from Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and producing partner Jon Landau.
Disneys Animal Kingdom Park will host the site as they both share the same approach to nature and life making the park a perfect setting. This gives Disney exclusive global theme park rights to the AVATAR franchise, allowing the possibility for other Disney international parks to have their own AVATAR lands.
“James Cameron is a ground-breaking filmmaker and gifted storyteller who shares our passion for creativity, technological innovation and delivering the best experience possible. With this agreement, we have the extraordinary opportunity to combine James talent and vision with the imagination and expertise of Disney”.
Robert A. Iger, President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company
AVATAR wowed audiences with its stunning visual effects making the alien world and environment more believable with advanced 3D filming techniques. With James Cameron on board as a creative consultant for the new AVATAR park there is no doubt that it will be a must see when visiting Walt Disney World. Construction for the new park is expected to begin by 2013 and, although a project this size is expected to last 5 years, we know the design phase has just begun.
