Big news, Walt Disney World Resort fans! A brand-new Disney Animation-inspired experience is heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and it’s shaping up to be pure magic.
If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping into the world where your favourite animated films are brought to life, this is your dream come true…
From “Once Upon a Studio” to Once-in-a-Lifetime Fun
Inspired by the Emmy Award-winning short film “Once Upon a Studio,” the upcoming attraction – The Magic of Disney Animation – invites guests of all ages to experience the joy, wonder, and creativity of the animation process like never before.
Opening in 2026, the experience will be housed in a reimagined building that nods to the legendary Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California – complete with Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat sparkling on top.
And yes, it will cast a little pixie dust magic over the entire courtyard!

What to Expect Inside The Magic of Disney Animation
The story kicks off as the animators step away from their desks and, suddenly, the characters take over!
Inside, guests will explore a whimsical, animated version of a working studio, with every department creatively “run” by your favourite Disney characters.
Key Highlights Include:
🎨 Character Sketch Studio – Learn to draw your own Disney-inspired Character with help from animators (and maybe a few mischievous Characters).
🖼️ Living Portraits & Interactive Displays – Just like in Once Upon a Studio, expect magical moments where Characters pop off the walls.
🎬 Short Film With a Twist – Be inspired by a new storytelling experience created just for this attraction.
🧚 Play Areas & Character Encounters – Meet beloved Characters, interact with themed zones, and enjoy endless creative play.
“Drawn to Wonderland” – A Dreamy Playground for Little Explorers
Designed for younger guests, the “Drawn to Wonderland” indoor playground brings the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland to life. Inspired by Mary Blair’s original concept art, kids can:
Wander through an oversized musical flower garden, clamber across a Mad Tea Party playset, and discover magical surprises in the Tulgey Wood. This immersive area is perfect for little ones to play, imagine, and grow “curiouser and curiouser!”.
A Courtyard Full of Creativity: Welcome to “The Walt Disney Studios”
But the magic doesn’t stop at the building’s edge. The entire courtyard area surrounding the new attraction will be transformed into The Walt Disney Studios – inspired by the real studio lot in Burbank, complete with:
– A reimagined Studio Theater (still home to The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure)
-A brand-new Disney Jr. show inside the soundstage
-Tranquil shaded areas perfect for relaxing, snacking, or spotting hidden characters playing among the trees
This fully immersive transformation celebrates Disney’s rich animation legacy in a way that’s never been done at Walt Disney World before.
When Does It Open?
The Magic of Disney Animation is set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026. To prepare for this exciting addition, Animation Courtyard and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will close starting September 25, 2025. But don’t worry – you can still enjoy The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Walt Disney Presents, including the exhibits and film.
