Runners can compete in a variety of family-focused race events throughout the year with eight race weekends at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando and the Disneyland Resort in California.
This past weekend the Walt Disney World Resort hosted the 6th annual Princess Half Marathon Weekend. 40,000 runners of all ages competed in the Cinderella Royal Family 5K, the Inaugural Disney Enchanted 10K and the Princess Half Marathon.
Here’s a look back at the weekends festivities:
Fit for a Princess Expo
The race weekend began on Thursday with the Fit for a Princess Expo at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. This is where race participants picked up their race bibs and commemorative shirts which are included in race registration.
Inaugural Disney Enchanted 10K
Saturday morning runners started their 6.2 mile journey in royal style as fireworks filled the air at the Inaugural Disney Enchanted 10K.
This race took runners through the Epcot theme park as well as the Boardwalk Resort area.
Princess Half Marathon
Sunday marked the start of the longest race of the weekend – the 13.1 mile Disney Princess Half Marathon!
Runners started this journey right outside of Epcot. They then made their way down World Drive to the Magic Kingdom.
After entering a backstage area of the Magic Kingdom runners made their way down Main Street USA and through Tomorrowland.
Participants then ran through Fantasyland before making their way to Cinderella Castle.
After running through Magic Kingdom and making it to the halfway mark, Princesses turn back down World Drive for the run to the finish line at Epcot.
Here’s a look at the hardware that was earned for running in the Inaugural Glass Slipper Challenge!
runDisney race weekends are a great way for families to combine the excitement of completing an endurance event with the magic of a Disney vacation. There are even events catered towards the tiniest member of your family including a diaper dash for the wee ones and kids races that range in distance from 100m to 1 mile. Consider a runDisney racecation for your next holiday and get the entire family in on the fun!
