Jaws Attraction to Close at Universal Studios

Jaws Ride

Universal Studios have announced that they will be closing the Jaws-themed area and Captain Jakes Amity Boat Tours water ride at their resort in Orlando, Florida.

The Jaws attraction has been in operation for over 20 years, and is one of only three attractions that are still in operation since the Orlando resort opened in June 1990.

Jaws

The ride was originally inspired by the Jaws section of Universal Studios Hollywood resort, and features a steel and fibreglass shark measuring 32 feet and weighing three tonnes, which was based on the 1975 movie. It proved to be one of the parks most popular attractions when Universal Studios first opened, and has been going strong ever since despite several instances of hurricane damage, when it had to be closed for refurbishment.

The news was announced via Universal Studios’ Facebook page, which also revealed that the ride and the surrounding area is being closed to make room for an exciting new attraction experience. Rumours abound that the new attraction in question may be a further addition to the Universal Resorts recently-opened Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but this is yet to be confirmed.

The Jaws ride and Amity area will close on January 2nd 2012.
